There’s something lovely about watching your children grow through photographs! One minute they’re tiny enough to fit perfectly in your arms, and the next they’re running through the studio, full of cheeky personality, opinions and stories to tell. That’s one of the reasons I love offering seasonal mini sessions throughout the year at Sugar Plum Photography.

Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day and Back to School each bring their own little bit of magic — and they give us the perfect excuse to stop for a moment and capture your little one’s just as you are right now.

What exactly is a seasonal mini session?

A mini session is a shorter, themed photography session designed around a particular season or celebration.

Unlike a full portrait session there’s no need to spend hours in front of the camera. Everything is planned around a beautiful seasonal backdrop or set allowing the experience to be relaxed, simple and fun.

Because the sessions are shorter, they’re ideal for little ones who don’t have a huge amount of patience for photographs!

When you arrive, we have some fun and capture lots of gorgeous images and you’re back home before the novelty wears off. It’s simple and it’s fun and most importantly, you get beautiful photographs to keep.

🎄 Christmas Mini Sessions

These are the most popular by far and always sell out! There really is something magical about photographing children at Christmas.

The twinkling lights, festive colours, decorations and that unmistakable Christmas excitement make these sessions some of my favourite of the year.

Because here’s the thing…

Next Christmas they’ll be a whole year older. They’ll be taller. Their faces will have changed. Their little voices and mannerisms will be different.

Rather than waiting for the perfect family photograph to happen naturally amongst the chaos of Christmas morning, why not create one?

Christmas mini-session photographs also make beautiful gifts for grandparents and family members, as well as Christmas cards!

And let’s be honest — grandparents can never have too many photographs of their grandchildren!

❤️ Valentine’s Mini Sessions

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just about romantic couples. For me, Valentine’s is all about love!

And if you love dressing up your kiddies in their best outfits and cooing over how adorable they are holding out a rose to you then this may be for you

Valentine’s mini sessions are a gorgeous opportunity to capture those cheeky smiles and gorgeous faces in a fun, relaxed setting. Those are the moments worth remembering.

And sometimes a themed session gives us the perfect excuse to capture them.

🐰 Easter Mini Sessions

Easter brings a completely different feel to the studio. Think spring colours, beautiful details, Easter eggs, bunnies and lots of opportunities for fun!

Easter minis are particularly lovely for younger children because there’s plenty for them to interact with. Rather than expecting children to sit perfectly still and smile at the camera, I love creating opportunities for them to play, explore and simply be themselves.

Some of the best photographs happen when children forget they’re having their photograph taken. And those natural expressions are often the ones you’ll treasure most.

💕 Mother’s Day Mini Sessions

If there is one seasonal session I wish every mum could experience, it’s a Mother’s Day mini. Because moms are so often the ones taking the photographs.

We’re brilliant at documenting everyone else. But how many photographs do you actually have with your children?

Mother’s Day mini sessions are a chance to change that. They’re about capturing the connection between you and your children — the cuddles, smiles, kisses and little moments that show just how much you mean to each other.

And you don’t need to worry about being perfectly dressed or looking picture-perfect. Your children won’t remember whether your hair was immaculate.

They’ll remember you. And one day, these photographs will become incredibly precious, especially when you bring along older generations to join in the fun too!

🎒 Back-to-School Mini Sessions

Whether your little one is heading off to nursery for the first time, starting reception, moving up to secondary school or simply returning for another year, back to school mini sessions are a lovely way to capture this little milestone.

Those first-day photographs are often taken in the rush at home — backpacks on, shoes being found and everyone trying to get out of the door on time!

A mini session gives you the chance to slow down and capture those details properly: their new uniform, their little face, their excitement (or perhaps their “I’m not sure about this!” expression!), and all the personality that makes them who they are.

Because one day, that oversized school jumper won’t be oversized anymore, their little shoes will be far too small, and you’ll wonder how they ever looked so tiny.

A new school year is a new chapter and it’s worth remembering. 🤍

Mini sessions are designed to be quick, enjoyable and achievable even when you have small children who aren’t particularly keen on sitting still! AND they’re affordable.

Because the session is shorter and focused around one particular set-up, mini sessions can be a more accessible way to have professional photographs taken throughout the year. And they’re fun! Each season brings a completely different experience.

Your children might be cuddling up at Christmas, playing with Easter props or sharing kisses with Mum.

Every session tells a different little story. They capture the changes as we all know how much children grow (in height and personality) in a year!

A seasonal mini gives you the opportunity to document those changes regularly.

Imagine having a Christmas photograph every year and watching your little ones grow from toddlers into big children.

And they create beautiful gifts. A beautiful framed photograph or collection of prints can mean far more to family members than another pair of socks or box of chocolates! And unlike most gifts, photographs become more valuable with time.

That’s why I love and will always offer seasonal mini’s.

It gives us little opportunities throughout the year to press pause. To put the phones down, bring everyone together and have a little fun. And to capture your little one’s exactly as they are right now.

Because one day, you’ll look back and realise that these weren’t just photographs.

They were memories.
